In December 2017 it is 100 years ago that general (male)suffrage was introduced in the Netherlands, female suffrage followed two years later in 1919. On 17 December this historic event is celebrated in Leiden with a festival with support from the centre for the study of political parties and representation. Goal of het Kiesrechtfestival  is to look back and discuss the current functioning of our democracy, together with speakers like Rita Verdonk, Femke Halsema, Joris Luyendijk, but also come to the lectures given by Joop van Holsteijn and Henk te Velde.
